6 Best Inground Pool Cleaners 2017

Pools seem to be the ultimate “dirty” magnet. If it’s dirty, chances are that it will end up in the pool!

Having a pool isn’t just a matter of filling the tub with water and diving right in. For something as expensive as an inground pool, it is worth the time and additional expense to invest into the right cleaning tools.

If you’re in need of the best inground pool cleaner, then have a look at our suggestions below.

Type of Cleaner

There are a few types of cleaners that you’ll want to use for inground pools.

  • Robotic. If you’re constantly dealing with algae growth and you only have small debris in the pool, then the best inground pool cleaner is a robotic one.
  • Suction Side Pool Cleaners. This type of cleaner hooks up to the pool’s existing filtration system, so you won’t need a separate pump to power it.

Everything that it sucks up is sent to the pump strainer basket or the filter, making them exceptionally handy for cleaning small debris from the sides of your pool.

  • Pressure Side Pool Cleaners. Pull out the big guns if you need to clean the big stuff!

Large debris and large quantities of debris can be tackled best with a pressure side pool cleaner.

Unlike the suction cleaner above, this has a debris bag attached to the top and a tail that swings behind it to loosen and scrub algae from the sides.

This will require a separate booster pump that you install near the pool.

Inexpensive Options

In addition to the heavy-duty cleaners we’ve just discussed, chances are that you’ll also need a few manual tools for light cleaning here and there.

A net, such as number 5 below, is handy for skimming the top of the pool and a scrub brush with a long handle is great for loosening algae from the bottom.

Top 3 Best Inground Pool Cleaner Reviews

1. Zodiac F1

If you want a cleaner that does everything, then invest in a Polaris Vac-Sweep.

This is the 360 model, ideal for all inground pools and for those who want to simultaneously sweep, scrub and vacuum up dirt and debris from their pool.

It features an in-line back-up valve that automatically frees the vac if it gets stuck in a corner and will keep cleaning without interruption.

It is powered by three jets and the filtration bag attached to the back will remove debris before they head to the pump basket or filter and it includes 31 feet of feed hose to navigate its way around the pool.

If you use it daily or every other day, run it for around two hours to get the pool clean.

An excellent cleaning machine if you have an inground pool!

2. Generic 99996323

You actually have two options for the Nautilus: this one or Nautilus Plus. The Plus costs more and has a few additional features, but we really liked the price and capabilities of this robotic cleaner and decided to give you the scoop.

Turn him on and let him go! This is probably the best inground pool cleaner for the simple fact that you just turn it on, drop it in the pool and then you go about your day. Little effort is required on your behalf! This will clean pools up to 50 feet in length (the cable is 60 feet long) and it features with a built-in software that tells it how to clean the pool in the most efficient way possible.

Another nice feature is the swiveling cable that prevents it from getting tangled in itself.

You also get two filter cartridges: one pleated polyester fiber filter for very fine filtration (dirt and tiny particles) and a mesh filter that will pick up larger debris.

3. Zodiac W03000

The Baracuda G3 is an excellent side cleaner with a quiet motor, powerful suction and it works well with low-speed pumps for maximum efficiency.

It’s great for small to medium-sized debris and the wheel deflector helps it glide around tight corners. The sides of your pool are safe thanks to the scuff-resistant hose and the fin disc helps increase the suction to the side of the pool without getting stuck on drain covers, lights or other protruding objects it encounters

It is very effective as a cleaner, but it is heavier and does move slower because of this. You’ll probably need at least five hours to clean the pool, and therefore it requires more energy.
